The Employment Pass allows foreign professionals, managers and executives to work in Singapore. Candidates need to earn at least $3,600 a month and have acceptable qualifications.

  • Foreign Professionals with a job offer in Singapore who meet the eligibility criteria.

How long does it take to receive an Employment Pass?
The standard processing time for an Employment Pass is about 5-8 weeks. It might take longer for certain nationalities due to the external vetting employed along with vetting done by the MOM officers.
What are some documents I should be preparing in advance for my EP application?
  • Ensuring that the passport has a minimum validity period of 6 months
  • All non-english documents required for the application such as education
    qualifications should be translated by an authorized translator and certified
  • Applicants who graduated from Chinese universities will additionally need to submit verification proof of their qualifications
  • Academic transcripts alone will not suffice as an education certificate. The applicant will need to submit a certificate conferring the qualification or a formal completion letter from the awarding institution.
What are some reasons that can cause my EP application to be rejected?
  • Insufficient documents submitted
  • Salary declared for the EP application falls below the eligibility requirements
  • Incorrect job posting
  • Company’s funds/turnover is not sufficient to pay the applicant’s annual
    salary
  • The applicant is a shareholder of the company
  • The applicant does not have the experience or qualifications to meet the
    position being applied for. We do want to emphasize that all pass applications are assessed on their own merits subjectively and the outcome of each application is ultimately decided by the reviewing officer. Our expertise is to ensure that your application is represented in the best light to the authorities to ensure you have a maximum chance of a successful outcome.
Can an appointed director apply for an Employment Pass?

Yes. However to minimize any risk of complications with the application, we would recommend for the applicant to not to be part of the business profile even as a director unless if the salary of the director is above $12000 and/or Singapore company is a branch/subsidiary/affiliate company.

Will a chance of appeal be provided when the Employment Pass is rejected?

Yes, all applications will be given two chances of appeal within three months of the date of rejection. We do include 1 appeal in our professional service fees and so far our appeals have largely been successful.

I currently hold an Employment pass tagged to another company and I am looking to join a new company. Should I cancel my current EP before applying or am I able to continue working until my new EP gets approved?

Yes you can apply for an EP under a different company while holding your current EP. Your current EP will need to be cancelled before your new one is activated/issued.

Can I receive an EP in 2 weeks?

The average processing time for an Employment Pass is about 4-5 weeks. However, there have been cases where individuals have received their EP in a short span of time especially when they are currently holding an EP.

Is there a quota for Employment Pass in Singapore?

No, there is no quota for Employment Pass as of now though a company should always try maintain the recommended Local to Foreign employee ratio of 3:1 to avoid being in risk of non-compliance with the Fair Consideration Framework.

Does an Employment Pass holder receive CPF contribution?

Employment Pass holders are not subject to CPF contribution. Only when an EP holder applies for PR and received it will he/she be applicable for compulsory CPF contribution.

My EP is rejected but S-pass is approved. What should I do?

There are many factors that contribute to the rejection of an Employment Pass. A few of the possible reasons could be that your experience, educational qualifications do not commensurate with the job position. This is evaluated on a case-by-case basis and please contact us so that we can provide you with the right advice.

Can an EP holder work for more than one company in Singapore?

No an EP holder can only work for the company that is sponsoring his/her EP. The only exception is when the EP holder is appointed as a director of a company related by shares to the current employing company. A letter of consent (LOC) is however required prior to the appointment.

How is a company’s financial capacity to apply for Employment Passes assessed?

The company should have sufficient funds or proof of incoming revenue/investment/financial guarantee to pay for its overheads including the applicant’s salary for at least 1 year.

Is it possible for an EP holder to be a director of 2 companies?

Yes please refer to point 12. An LOC is required for a secondary appointment.

What are the main differences between an EP and a SPass?

The minimum salary for an EP is SGD3600 and this can significantly increase commensurate with the applicant’s profile. The minimum salary for an SPass is SGD2400 and can increase according to the applicant’s profile as well.

You do not need to have quota to apply for an EP but the SPass requires quota depending on your industry (for example for service sector, 6 full-time Singaporean/PR employees for 1 SPass quota availability).

Can I pay an EP holder a salary less than the amount declared in the application?

No, this will be considered as a false declaration and it is an infringement of the
Employment of Foreign Manpower Act. Directors of an offending company can
be subject to a penalty of a hefty fine and even imprisonment.
